Virginia Votes Out Benefits for Illegal Immigrants
Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus.
He just doesn't live in the great state of Virginia (err...Commonwealth...but that just sounds socialist...so Virginia, henceforth you are a State) .
Both chambers of the Virginia General Assembly voted yesterday and overwhelmingly approved a measure that would deny illegal aliens access to state and local public benefits, including Medicaid.
The House voted 81-17 to approve the bill, which applies only to aliens 19 and older. The Senate, which usually rejects legislation that restricts benefits to illegal aliens, approved the bill on a 27-11 vote.
Now, how soon can we get these men and women fast tracked to the US Congress?
Start the Moonbat Patrol, because the swarming flock is surely descending on Richmond and all cable news outlets as we speak.
Lynda S. Zengerle, a lawyer who heads the immigration practice in the international group at the D.C.-based law firm of Steptoe & Johnson, said if the measure saves the state money, it "may be the right thing to do."
(No, Lynda. If it discourages and discontinues support for illegal immigration, it is the right thing to do.)
However, Ms. Zengerle, who represents corporations, immigrants and those seeking asylum, was skeptical about the savings. "You may be doing more harm than good by denying benefits to people who wouldn't be able to afford them otherwise," she said.
Here's the Money Quote:
"These bills honor legal immigrants who wait in line and follow all the rules," said Mr. Albo, Fairfax County Republican.
You will not believe the Democrat rationale for voting 'No'. Hold onto your chair so you don't fall out of it:
Several Democrats opposed the measure, saying they thought it was too vague and could hurt those seeking refuge or those awaiting notification of their immigration status.
Can someone pleaqse explain the logic? Why are they here if they have NO STATUS in the first place? If they are law-abiding immigrants, they are granted status BEFORE they are here. This logic would justify pardoning a bank robber who is awaiting notification of the status of his wtihdrawal slip! It's Bass Ackwards!
Delegate Brian J. Moran said he opposed the measure because it could be costly and burdensome for state workers to verify whether they are helping aliens. He said he hopes the "no" votes cast would get the governor's attention.
Brian, you are an idiot. Please forgive us for burdening state workers with the minor task of IDENTIFICATION and VERIFICATION. Please, for the sake of the people of Virginia, abstain from any votes regarding Virginia DMV and Drivers License issuing. Recuse yourself on the grounds that you are an idiot. When's your re-election campaign? I'd like to volunteer in your district.
"All we're doing is placing an unnecessary and substantial burden on legal United States citizens, our constituents," said Mr. Moran, Alexandria Democrat. "Maybe if it receives enough red lights this will receive the scrutiny it deserves when it arrives" at the governor's office.
How so, Brian? By adding a task to State Employees...like identificaiton and verification of status? Where does the 'substantial burden' of redistributing funds from citizens to illegal aliens come into play? Precisely who are your constituants, Alexandria taxpayers or Mexican/Colombian/Ecuadorian/Pakistani citizens and illegal aliens?
Sit down and shut up before you hurt yourself, Brian.
Let's here three cheers for the Legal, Law Abiding, Tax Paying CITIZENS and LEGAL IMMIGRANTS of Virginia. You just won.
